PIP Rules

This page is provided to help players understand the rules/guidelines for Peninsula Interclub Pickleball.  If you have a question please reach out to your captain or the league rules committee.

Match Play – Rules

Each match will consist of 3 rounds of 4 games each total of 12 games.  Each game will consist of 11 points, a team must win by 2 points. The maximum score to report is 11 pts per game ie if the final is 12 -10 the score is reported as 11-9.   Standard pickleball scoring is used, teams will flip to determine who will serve first and the teams will switch ends after a team reaches 6 points.  A team must have a minimum of four players for each match; 4 Men, 4 Women or 2 Men and 2 Women for a mixed match.

If there is a question or dispute, the team captains should confer to resolve the issue.  Remember this is a “FUN” league lets try and keep it that way.  Please adhere to the USA Pickleball Sportsmanship Guide and share this with your players.  (See below).

 

As mentioned there are 12 games in a match in the event of a tie 6-6, the total # of points won is used to determine the match winner.  If the total points are tied, a 7 pt tie breaker will determine the match winner (captain to decide teams) The league winner will be determined based on the total # of matches won (w head-to-head result), and then total # of games won and finally total # of points won.

 

Each match will start at the location and time as determined on the schedule by the home team.  A short 10 to 15 minute warmup period will commence at prior to the match start if there are courts available. 

 

Each home team will provide balls, USA Pickleball approved outdoor balls will be used.  Franklin X, are the preferred ball of choice.

 

Each home team may provide water and snacks (optional).  Players are encouraged to bring their own individual water bottles.

 

Each team captain is responsible for filling in their lineup and recording the individual scores.  The home team captain will post the final score to the Ladies Daytime League Master docs Scheduling and Results sheet for the respective division no later than 48 hours after the match is completed.

If a team is unable to field a roster for a given match, they should contact the other captain at least 1 week prior to the match.  If there are weather related issues, the home captain has up to 24 hours prior to the match to cancel and reschedule.  If a team defaults a match the winning team will receive 1 Win, 7 Games and 77 Points, if a team defaults 2 matches in a season they will be suspending from the league for the upcoming season

 

All players must be registered prior to playing in a match, and a player may only play/register for a single club in a given season.  If a player plays without registration their scores will not count.

 

DUPR

All league matches will be recorded using the Match Pickle app.  Captains and DUPR admins no longer will be entering matches into DUPR.

 

Coaching

Coaching is ONLY allowed during timeouts or after a game is finished.  Coaching may not occur during a game while play is in progress.

 

Spectators

Some clubs may not allow spectators, please check prior to the match.  If spectators are watching they must NOT do anything to interfere with play including; calling lines, calling kitchen violations, calling ball-on etc.  They can cheer for good play.

 

Scorecard

A blank scorecard is provided in the PIP Master docs, please print a blank copy and fill it in prior to each match.  There are two versions one for Mens and Womens doubles and one for Mixed doubles, please make sure you are using the right version.

 

NOTE: ALL matches will be recorded in Match Pickle.  Please use the app during the match, IF you are using a paper scorecard simply enter the results into Match Pickle after completion.  HOME Captains are responsible for recording match scores.
